The camera does not show you anything. That is the entire feature. You press the shutter, the mechanism makes a sound that is very slightly too loud, and then you carry on walking with no idea whether you got it.

The limit does the work
Thirty-six is small enough to notice. By frame thirty you are choosing rather than collecting, and the choosing is the part I actually enjoy.
- One roll per outing, usually
- Two if I am somewhere I will not be again
- Expired stock when the light does not matter
- The good stock stays in the bag for months, unused, on purpose
Digital gives you every frame you took. Film gives you the ones you meant.

The evening at the scanner
Developing is chemistry with a timer and it is genuinely relaxing. Scanning is not relaxing; it is dust, and dust, and one more piece of dust. But it is an evening with no notifications in it, which is worth more than the photographs.
